My Approach
As a counsellor, my goal is to make you feel safe, heard, and seen. I will treat you and your story with care. Mostly, I just want you to be yourself.
I don’t see my clients as a set of symptoms, a diagnosis, or a problem to fix. I see you as a complex and whole person who’s shaped by your relationships, experiences, and the challenges you’ve overcome. In my therapy space, you’ll never be seen as deficient or having something wrong with you.
My sessions aren’t overly formal or regimented. I always invite my clients to come as they are, and to be wholly and unapologetically themselves. I’m here for the laughs, the tears, the small victories, and the big wins.
If you’re wondering what therapy with me is like, then here are a few things that I welcome during my sessions:
Attending the session from your favourite spot on the couch with a cozy blanket
Showing me a text message from a friend or family member that has been bothering you
Reading me a lyric that perfectly describes how you’re feeling
Playing with a fidget toy to keep your hands busy
Reading me an excerpt from your journal
Showing me a TikTok that made you feel seen
Dropping F-bombs
Telling me that something I said during a session didn’t land well or bothered you
Letting me know that a skill or technique we’re discussing doesn’t resonate with you
Asking me to keep the session light because you don’t feel like diving into heavy subject matter during a particular session
I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach.
My approach is tailored to your needs. I work from a framework that is anti-diet, size-inclusive, gender-affirmative, and trauma-informed. I keep things simple and approachable; you won’t hear me using too many technical terms or theoretical therapy speak. I won’t give you worksheets or homework if that’s not what you’re looking for. You know yourself best, and our sessions, our goals, and our methods are guided by you.
I have been trained in the following approaches, and I draw a little bit from each of them during my sessions:
Narrative Therapy (NT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
I’m here for the laughs, the tears, the small victories, and the big wins.
